John is a graduate of the University of Vermont (1982, BA in Philosophy) and Harvard Law School (1985, J.D.) He was a tax attorney in private practice in Portland Maine for eleven years, specializing in tax planning and tax litigation, including income tax, estate and gift tax, retirement planning, succession planning for closely-held businesses and option planning for executives. He also previously worked at -NationsBank and was a Wealth Strategist in the Private Bank for the next 24 years retiring in 2020. Since then, John became a volunteer Medicare counselor with SHIIP, North Carolina’s program to help folks navigate the Medicare maze. SHIIP is an organization in most/all states that trains volunteers to help folks navigate the Medicare world (NC site here). It’s a partnership among (1) the federal government (Medicare); (2) the North Carolina Department of Insurance; and (3) local nonprofits that help distribute these volunteer advisory services.
